Romeo Hotel in Naples, Italy
by

Romeo HotelFebruary, 2012. We arrived at the Romeo Hotel late in the day after traversing snow-covered roads through Campania. It did not take long to learn that some of the people in the Naples area had never experienced snow.

The front of this contemporary building is sparkling glass gleaming with brightness in the darkness of the night. Getting out of the bus or car guests must take care not to stumble on the curb that is easy to miss just outside the doors.

Romeo HotelAfter passing through two sets of sliding glass doors, tourists must take a few steps up to reach the registration desk. A concierge is available to help. The lobby area is large with numerous art displays to browse. While staying at the Romeo be sure to view the contemporary art, photography and antiques. Notice the upholstered cushioned chair with the wood painted the same as the cushion covering. Don’t miss the waterfall display. Watch long enough to see the entire cycle that spells out the words “Hotel Romeo.” A modern sushi bar and restaurant is located behind the lobby.

The Romeo Hotel in Naples has a restaurant on the 10th floor, Il Comandante, with delightful views of Mount Vesuvius. Breakfast is served buffet style with many types of Italian foods including prosciutto, fresh fruits, scrambled eggs, several bread styles, juice, and Prosecco. Special orders are taken for eggs. It is tempting to linger over breakfast and contemplate the mountains as a mist and clouds move past. Some of our group remained after the tour was over. We had dinner at the Il Comandante restaurant and delighted in the food and a distant fireworks display that was clearly visible from the 10th floor restaurant.

Our room was large, clean and warm. Drapes and curtains are closed or opened with the touch of a switch. Rooms are cleaned early in the day and the bed is turned down in the evening and a sweet chocolate treat is left.

Hotel Staff

The staff was cordial both at the registration desk and in the restaurant. One staff member was particularly helpful at suggesting places to visit while in Naples. Due to her suggestions we toured Napoli Sotterranea, Naples underground caves.

Location

With the exception of visiting Pompeii and the Citta del Gusto restaurant, we walked to every destination in Naples from the Romeo Hotel. Castel Nuovo is within a short distance. Others walks were longer but that was fine, a great way to work off some of that great Italian food we had been enjoying for a week. Browse the boutique shops that line so many of city streets as you walk to destinations.
