Inn on the Twenty
by
Kathy and Terry Sullivan

While visiting wineries in the Jordan area of Ontario, Canada, we experienced a delightful and peaceful two-night stay at the elegant old style Inn on the Twenty. Immediately across the street from Cave Spring Cellars and nearby small shops, the location creates a tempting shopping spree. Be sure to take time to visit the boutique shops while in Jordan village.

Inn on the TwentyInn on the TwentyUpon entering the Inn on the Twenty, we discovered a small sign indicating the guest registry was on the second floor. The staff is friendly and eager to please. During the day, you may find hors d'oeuvres in the common area near the registration counter. If you would like coffee or tea in the morning, it is brought to your door on a tray at the time of your choosing. Our room was spacious and inviting. A sitting area included a gas fireplace, sofa, chair, desk and small tables . A king size bed was comfortable and the bathroom was quite large with a whirlpool bath and shower. A bottle of Cave Spring Cellars Gamay was on the coffee table when we arrived.

Historically, the present inn was a warehouse. After the Pennachetti family purchased the open building, they constructed nine guest rooms and kept one room for breakfast. Eventually they renovated the breakfast room into a 10th guest room. As the years past, the owners added additional rooms until the inn has 28 rooms available at this location. Each room is unique and spectacular with much care in the selection of furniture and decorative items.

Inn on the TwentyThey created a wonderful ambience with the construction of rooms and the costly decorating of each with carpets, fireplaces and Jacuzzis. This would seem to be cost prohibitive. However, Helen Young, proprietor, explained, “Restoration can be done in pieces, a little at a time.” The Inn and Restaurant had little competition at the time and became popular. Canadian identity is important at the inn, renovating the old warehouse helped to keep a part of the Canadian past. Helen said, “We tried to maintain what we have in Canada. By nature we are renovators rather than new builders.” Throughout the inn, you will find antiques and modern furniture all selected with care. Many of the antiques are from the Niagara region.

If you are planning small meetings or retreats, consider Inn on the Twenty. With two conference rooms available and a quiet decorum, this may be the perfect place to meet.

The Inn, restaurant and winery have taken on their own character. They articulate the food and wine of the region. Comments from visitors include the sentiments, “Oh my God, I wish I could live here,” and “I could live here, I could make wine.”

Inn on the TwentyThe Inn on the Twenty is centrally located near more than fifty wineries and vineyards within a five to thirty minute drive. Niagara Falls is just thirty minutes away. When planning on staying at the Inn on the Twenty, go to their website to discover a variety of different rooms available. Rooms vary in size and interior decorating but all are delightful. With a fireplace, Jacuzzi, Internet access, television, upholstered furniture and delightful original pictures, a stay at the inn is sure to be memorable.
