Arcady Vineyard Bed & Breakfast
by

A drive through a wooded area brings travelers to Arcady Vineyard Bed and Breakfast. Nestled in front of a one-acre Chambourcin vineyard, the bed and breakfast is located just 2½ miles from Thomas Jefferson’s historic Monticello. Five wineries are located within minutes and other wineries along the Monticello Wine Trail are an easy drive from the bed and breakfast that makes a good base for exploring the Monticello AVA.

Currently Arcady Bed and Breakfast has two suites for guests. There are plans to increase this to four guest rooms and a two-bedroom suite. The facility was designed and built by owners Chris and Erika Goodell. Chris created one room with an octagon shape reminiscent of Jefferson’s Monticello. This room is one of the many common area rooms at the bed and breakfast.

A private entrance from the circular driveway makes for an easy entrance to the suite. An outside deck offers an inviting area to enjoy a glass of wine. The suite has three rooms. The large bedroom has a king size bed, electronic fireplace and flat screen television with local HD channels. The sitting room has a loveseat and whirlpool tub. The bathroom offers heated stone floors with a spa shower.

Common Areas

This room is a connection between the guest rooms and the main part of the house. A wide counter has freshly baked cookies and guests may microwave popcorn. Port is available for guests during the evening.

The Dining Area

Sunlight floods the dining area that overlooks the vineyards. A mixture of modern and antique furnishings gives the room a sophisticated look. Breakfast is served at rectangular tables for two. On the morning of our stay our breakfast included melon balls served in an orange juice, honey and cinnamon sauce, a home baked blueberry muffin, fresh strawberries, macadamia banana pancakes and sausage. An orange butter and Vermont maple syrup were accompaniments for the pancakes. The breakfast also includes juice and tea or coffee. An outdoor deck is a delightful spot to sit and relax.

From the dining room the octagon room is a tribute to wine. Magnum wine bottles decorate four of the room’s walls and wood wine crates add a distinctive touch to the wine theme of the room.

Sitting Areas

Beyond the octagon room there is the main entrance foyer with two sitting rooms off to the sides. The parlor has antique furnishings and seating for several people. Natural light floods the room that has an early American décor. The library has a leather sofa and chair and many books. Several of the books have an FBI theme. The FBI seal and United States flag as well as mementos on a desk pay tribute to Erika’s father who served in the military and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

A unique opportunity, while at the bed and breakfast, is to take a wine tour. Erika and Chris also run Arcady Vineyard Wine Tasting Tours. Guests at the bed and breakfast receive a discount on the wine tour. The tour visits three to four wineries.

The Charlottesville area is a wonderful area to visit. Historic sites, the University of Virginia and wineries make this region a tourist attraction. Arcady Vineyard Bed and Breakfast provides an excellent base for exploring the area.
