Black Star Farms Inn
Kathy and Terry Sullivan

Black Star Farms InnBlack Star Farms is an elegant inn to spend the evening while visiting this agriculture destination. Large and magnificent in appearance from the outside, the inn is picturesque with white columns highlighting the red two-story building. A fountain is in the center of the circular driveway.

There is even more to see and enjoy inside. Windows supply much natural light to the interior. Guests enter the inn through the front doors to a large foyer with a white marble floor. In the center of the floor a black compass rose contrasts the white. Although the compass rose was thought to be a star by some, the name black star was preferred to compass rose. Hence, the name is Black Star Farms.

Black Star Farms Inn pegasus barTo the right of the foyer, the Pegasus bar awaits guests for the nightly hospitality hour. Complimentary glasses of wine and hors d’oeuvres are served as guests relax and converse. Wine seems to be among the topics discussed, and the Black Star Farms staff seizes the moment to provide gentle wine education. We met a couple from Indiana who chose Black Star Farms as their first winery to visit and taste the wines. The Pegasus bar opens to a library with books and games to play.

To the right of the Pegasus bar farther down a hall are two guestrooms designed for those who need either wheelchair access or require an extended stay. One a large room with a living room space and its own kitchen and bar for private entertaining.

In the center of the foyer doors lead to the Arcturos room. This room is used for meetings, receptions or a lounge. It has its own bar and comfortable sofa and chairs. Off the Arcturos room there is a large reception hall. Originally, an indoor swimming pool, the room has been redesigned into an elegant events room.

From the foyer, a large sweeping staircase rises to the left accenting the architectural design of the inn. A large balcony runs across the top. Several bedrooms of various sizes are on this level. Bedrooms, named after stars in the northern galaxy, have a luxurious feel to them. Some bedrooms have fireplaces or spa tubs. All bedrooms have private baths and elegant furnishings.

Black Star Farms Inn Castor roomBlack Star Farms Inn Castor roomWe stayed in the Castor and Pollux room at the end of the balcony. The door to the suite leads to a hallway. To the left is the bathroom and to the right is another bedroom. This suite is ideal for two couples or a family with children. Further down the hallway is the master bedroom. This is a spacious room with a fireplace on the end. Chairs are set in front of the fireplace. A table and chairs are set off to the side and television with satellite channels is off to the other side. The king size bed is very comfortable. Once in the room, you have the tendency of not wanting to leave.

Black Star Farms Inn breakfastBlack Star Farms breakfastTo the left of the foyer a hallway leads to the kitchen where a gourmet breakfast is prepared. Our sight was drawn to an antique cast iron stove along a sidewall. This stove is quite similar to one we have used to heat our home. Several tables of various sizes are placed in the kitchen. After spending the night in a luxurious suite, do not miss the gourmet breakfast. The sumptuous breakfast offers fresh fruit, juice, home baked breads and a featured gourmet entrée. With so much to offer, be sure to arrive early enough to enjoy everything.
