Rose Hill Inn
by
Terry Sullivan
Located on three acres near horse farms, Rose Hill Inn is a perfect location for the wine and bourbon traveler. The mansion was built in 1823 and offers a parlor, library, front porch and ample room to roam the grounds.
History
Built in 1823, the house was first a residence of Dr. William Terrell. It was originally called “Rose Hill.” During the Civil War, both the North and the South occupied the house. It was used as a hospital and it is believed that stains on the floor were from the blood of wounded soldiers. After the Civil War, the house was rented to the principal of a girls school. In 1877 the house was purchased as a wedding gift for Lucie Graddy who married Edmund. M. Wallace. During this time there were several renovations of the house. Lucie and Edmund dressed the house up and made it into an elegant Victorian House. Several other owners have cared for the house through the years. It became a bed and breakfast in 1992.

The traveler’s room has a bedroom Jacuzzi, queen-sized bed, sitting area and a small kitchen area. The Terrell room is located on the first floor and has a private bath, king-sized bed, refrigerator and microwave. Julia’s room has a queen-sized bed, private bath and a cozy window seating area. We spent the evening in the Miss Lucie’s room. The spacious room had a comfortable bed and seating area. Both the television and wireless Internet worked well. The bathroom was also very spacious with a wonderful Jacuzzi.
Common Areas
There are several common areas for guests to enjoy. The parlor is a comfortable room with a fireplace and a perfect room for reading and enjoying conversations. An upstairs sitting room is a cozy place to read. You can make tea, coffee and hot chocolate at a side bar. The outdoor area has a large veranda and beautiful landscaped grounds. Mingle with the inn’s other guests. We stopped to talk with a couple from Ohio who were enjoying their stay at the Inn. Conversations are easy to start and fascinating.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served in the dining room. We had tea and juice for beverages. Our breakfast began with a fruit cup. The main course was an egg soufflé topped with sour cream and mango salsa on the side. A fresh roll and slices of cantaloupe completed the breakfast.
